Navjot Singh Bal was a
Commanding Officer of Para 2 of Indian Army. He has breathed his last in
Bengaluru on 9th April, 2020.
Biography/Wiki
Born and brought up in
Delhi, Colonel Navjot had completed schooling from Army Public School, Delhi.
He had joined NDA in 1998 and was commissioned in the Indian Army in 2002.
Career
Col. Navjot was a gifted
soldier. He was awarded by Shaurya Chakra by the President of India.
He had taken part in
many high profile anti – terrorist operations. He was part of the team that had
done surgical strike by entering PoK in 2016. In a sad turn of events, a lump on his right hand was diagnosed as a rare form of cancer in 2018, few months
after he had taken the role of Commanding officer of 2 Para of Bengaluru.
Chemotherapy and Radiotherapy was done. However, the treatment could only slow
the progress.
Oncologists had to
suggest amputation of his right arm which was done in January, 2019.
Unfortunately, that could also not stop the progress of cancerous cell.
Amputation could only delay the inevitable – his death.
The Indian Army has lost
a soldier by cancer. Navjot fought till the end. He was only sad because of the
way he was going to die. He would have preferred giving up life by fighting
against the enemy of the nation.

Interesting
and Lesser Known Facts:
- Within three months of amputation, Right handed Col. Navjot had learnt to fire from his left hand with same ease. Such was his dedication.
- The parents of late Col. Bal were in Delhi when he died. Because of lock down, they could not catch a flight. A special request was made to the defense Ministry, which allowed them to use an Indian army chopper. Unfortunately, the bureaucracy comes into the picture. Some Babus at the Home Ministry didn't allow it and refused to give permission. The duo along with Navtez Singh Bal had to drive 2000 km to reach Bengaluru. What a cruel Government!
