Renu Sharma is a 1988 batch IAS officer of AGUMT cadre. She has recently been appointed as the Chief Secretary to the Government of Mizoram.

During Covid - 19 pandemic, she was suspended by the Ministry of Home Affairs for breaking the rules of Lock Down in Delhi. She was working as Additional Chief Secretary (Transport) to the Government of NCT of Delhi.

Known for being a soft spoken and affable officer, Renu Sharma is quite popular in the corridor of power. She is a typical Indian woman – always ready to act out of kindness rather than according to the laws.

The suspension order of Renu Sharma has created a sort of havoc among powerful elites of Delhi. This is quite unique and a harsh punishment. However, it must be said that there is nothing wrong in this order. She has allowed DTC buses to take migrant labourers from different part of Delhi and dump them at the UP border. There are also many videos which show that announcements were made in the night that DTC buses will be available for the same and labourers will get buses from UP Government at the border.

There is also no doubt that Renu Sharma was working on the order of Arvind Kerjiwal. She can’t break the lock down rules made by the CM. Remember, Delhi had announced lock down before the PM and hence the usual excuse that the PM announced it abruptly won’t work here. Similarly, DTC buses were allowed to run by 25% capacity. Then, how come Renu Sharma allowed buses to run by 50% capacity.

Hopefully, Ms. Sharma will do justice to her new job and will not bow down under her political masters as she has done in Delhi. Amit Shah should also be given thumbs up for forgiving her great sins. May be he had sensed that she was just following orders of Arvind Kejriwal.
