Saravana Kumaran is regarded as one of the brightest minds in Tamil Nadu in the contemporary times when it comes to understanding socio – political issues. He had resigned from Indian Revenue Service (IRS) to do social work and teach children and students belonging to underprivileged section of society. When he had resigned from IRS, he was serving as the Joint Commissioner.

Saravana Kumaran was reportedly approached by K. Annamalai to join BJP. He had obliged the request as he has always loathed the undemocratic and anti – social behavior of Dravidian parties.
