Adeela Abdullah is an IAS officer of Kerala who has made a name of herself among the best performing officers of India in the contemporary times. She has that dreams of being an integral part of nation building and making positive contribution since her school days.

Adeela is the first woman from Malabar region of Kerala who has become an IAS officer. She is the torch bearer who compelled poor Muslims in the region to allow their daughters to pursue their dreams.

Adeela was born in 1985 in Kuttyadi, Kozikode. Her father was working in the Middle East on a low paying job while her mother was a school teacher. Fortunately, her parents were quite supportive of her dreams. They allow both Adeela and her sister to study and choose a career as they prefer. After completing schooling, Adeela took admission in MES Medical College in Perunthalmanna. While doing MBBS, she had already made her mind to become an IAS officer.

Without going for PG entrance examination, Adeela started preparation for UPSC Civil Services Exam. For that, she had to come to Delhi and join Hamdard Study Circle. The sheer dedication and determination helped her to achieve her aim despite all odds. She cracked UPSC CSE in her first attempt getting 230 All India Rank. More importantly, she was four months pregnant when appearing in the personal interview of IAS.

Adeela is married to Rabeeh. Both of them were studying in the same medical college. They were friends and decided to get married when Adeela’s parents were looking for a groom. They had gotten married just after completing MBBS. Dr. Rabeeh is still in medical professional and working as a government doctor.

Dr. Adeela has two children.

News and Controversies

Dr. Adeela was in news when she had taken tough action against rich businessmen of Kochi. As a sub collector, she had started a major drive against illegal encroachment of government land by builders and land sharks. She was transferred out of Kochi as a punishment.

Dr. Adeela was made the District Collector of Wayanad. It is said that Rahul Gandhi, the current MP, had requested the state government to appoint her.

Dr. Adeela was in news recently as she was rumored to be a supporter of Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). However, she had filed case against some BJP activists in cyber cell citing misuse of her pictures.

Under the leadership of her, Wayanad district has performed extremely well in the tough fight against Covid - 19 pandemic. The district has completely checked the spread of Corona virus infection with some innovative techniques and hard work of the entire district machinery. She has done exceptionally good in ensuring total quarantine, proper hospital management, modern contract tracing methods and self isolation, among others.
