Praveen Sood is a 1986
batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of Karnataka cadre. He was DG & IGP of Karnataka superseding two senior IPS officers.
He has succeeded the maverick Neelamani Raju, the first woman IPS to head the
state police. Post retirement, he has been appointed as the Director of CBI.

Praveen Sood is known as
an honest, hardworking and efficient officer. He has never been accused of
being a rubber stamp for any political party or businessperson. He was at the
helm of Karnataka Police for quite a long duration – around four years. Even opposition members have not raised any red flag on appointment of Mr. Sood as CBI Director.
Career
Before getting appointed
as DG & IGP, Mr. Sood was DGP of CID in Karnataka. In a career spanning
more than three decades, Praveen Sood has been quite efficient in maintaining
law and order of every district he was in charge as SP. He is seen as an
officer who is strict in policing without compromising with compassion and
humanity.
He was also the Commissioner of Bengaluru Police. He had launched many programs, including highly effective Namma 100 - an emergency response system, during this phase.
