Charu is the first woman to lead CRPF in such a crucial place. She has shown exemplary leadership to CRPF team fighting dreaded terrorists. This was not be the first instance of her getting tough job. Earlier, she had eliminated Naxals from Bihar while leading CRPF there.

She had gone for Telangana cadre after bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh. She has worked in both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana in different capacities and has always performed well. She had also worked in Kosovo on a UN Peace Keeping Mission.

Srinagar Sector of CRPF started functioning from 2005. The first Inspector General of this sector was A P Maheshwari, who is currently the Director General of CRPF.
Charu is a 1996 batch IPS officer.
She will now lead the Southern sector of CRPF. With this, she has become the first officer to lead four sectors of CRPF.
In Jammu and Kashmir, she had lead 69 operations in which 21, terrorists were killed.
