Born and brought up in a middle class Brahmin family, Shani was dreaming to become a journalist from her school days. She has done a course in journalism and got a job with Malayalam Manorama. Over time, she becomes the face of Manorama News. She has also gotten married to a journalist working at Manorama and has converted to Christianity.

Shani runs a highly popular debate show named Counter Point. This show is also known for her bullying tactics against Right Wingers of Kerala.
